Hammer-wielding moped thugs steal £15k watch
BY TOM BRYANT HAMMER-WIELDING thugs on a moped ripped a £15,000 Rolex watch from the wrist of comic Michael McIntyre in a terrifying smash and grab. The star, 42, was parked in his Range Rover outside his son’s school, when two masked men smashed the window and ripped the watch off his wrist. Other parents looked on in horror as the attack unfolded. A source close to the comic, who is worth £38million, said: “Michael is understandably very shaken by the whole experience.” It’s understood McIntyre was alone in the car at the time of the attack. McIntyre’s publicist Gary Farrow last night said: “There was an incident. Michael is fine.”
McIntyre, 41, lives in north London with his wife Kitty, who is an aromatherapist.
The pair married in 2003 and have two sons, Lucas, 13, and Oscar, 10.
In 2012, he was reportedly the highest-grossing comedian in the world and earned £22.86million that year before taxes. He has presented Michael McIntyre’s Big Show, a Saturday night entertainment series for BBC One, since 2016, as well as Britain’s Got Talent.
The comic is currently in the middle of a massive world tour.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said yesterday: “The victim was stationary in his car when two males on a moped smashed the car windows with a hammer before stealing property. No injuries were reported. No arrests have been made. Inquiries continue.”
In 2017, there were more than 23,000 crimes committed in London using motorcycles, including smash-and-grab robberies, high-value street raids and mobile phone theft.
The Met police are pouring resources into trying to crack down on moped crime, with thefts declining by 24 per cent in the period from June to September 2017.
