One in 10 affected by crime gangs

-

BY ALAN McEWEN ORGANISED crime gangs have affected one in 10 Scots in the last three years, figures show.

Three-quarters of these people had fallen victim to gangs, while 30 per cent of Scots said organised crime was “very or fairly serious” in their neighbourhood.

Those surveyed in the poll said the young, old and most disadvantaged were the worst hit.

Meanwhile, the Scottish Government’s Community Experiences of Serious Organised Crime report found gangs are preying on the most vulnerable, including elderly people hit by the bedroom tax.

Justice Secretary Michael Matheson said: “We will consider carefully the recommendations as we continue strengthening our collective approach.” A DEVOTED football fan has travelled 7000 miles from his home in Argentina to visit the home of his beloved Dundee United. Agustin Mervic, 18, from Buenos Aires, became obsessed with the Arabs after reading about their history and tangerine kit online. He has convinced others to sideline their devotion to Lionel Messi and Diego Maradona to support the Championship team by setting up a fan club and social media accounts with hundreds of followers.

Agustin visited Tannadice for the first time last week and was given behind the scenes access to the stadium and gifted club merchandise.

He made the trip with his aunt Estela and described it as a “dream come true”.

He said: “I came to learn more about the club I love. My favourite player is Fraser Fyvie.”
