Lizzie glad to be busy again after injury hell

- BY ALAN CAMPBELL

HIBS star Lizzie Arnot admits she still has her sights on English football after a move to Man City fell through 14 months ago.

The 22-year-old forward ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament in a freak accident and was out of football for a year.

She is now back in the Scotland squad for Thursday night’s World Cup qualifier against Belarus at Falkirk Stadium and the Group 2 game in Poland a week today.

Arnot said: “It’s really good to be back and it feels like I’ve never been away.”

It was all different a year ago when the City deal fell through following a training-ground mishap with the Hibees.

The winger said: “The girl faked to go one way and I went with her and fell over. It was as simple as that.

“I was worried straight away because you hear a noise.

“But I wasn’t in any pain and I drove home, which took about half an hour. It must have been the adrenaline.”

The previous month Arnot had been outstanding in a 3-1 Scotland win over Austria and although nothing had been announced, the summer move to City was a done deal.

She said: “I’m not going to lie, that was the case.

“It was a big blow and one of the toughest things to deal with but you can’t dwell on it. If you keep thinking about what might have been, it will just make you feel worse.”

Arnot finally returned to first-team football with Hibs in April, coming on as a sub in a 2-2 league draw with Glasgow City.

Since then she has been on fire, scoring 12 goals to become the top scorer in SWPL1.

Her form is certain to attract fresh interest from south of the border.

Arnot said: “It’s still an ambition. It would be good to challenge myself in a new environment.”
