Joe’s anguished mum describes her agony at the death of second child

-

BY AMANDA KEENAN THE heartbroken mum of a Scot found dead in his holiday hotel room says she is “broken beyond repair” at the loss of her second child.

Jayne Bates paid a loving tribute to her son Joe Cairnie, who was discovered in a hotel room in Bangkok, Thailand, on Sunday morning.

The family had already endured the loss of Suzanne, who was 15 when she was hit by a car after stepping off a bus in 2006.

We reported yesterday how their dad John was struggling to come to terms with Joe’s death.

His ex-wife Jayne, 48, described her son as “one in a million” and said the agony of losing another child is too much to bear.

She said: “I just can’t believe Joe is gone. He was such a beautiful boy, his eyes were always smiling.

“He really struggled with the loss of his sister and now he’s gone too. It just doesn’t feel real.

“I’ve cried and cried and keep ringing his phone hoping he will pick up. I just want him back, it’s a living nightmare.

“It feels like my heart has been ripped out. I just want to see him, hold him and cuddle him, but I can’t because he’s so far away.

“I don’t know what happened and feel so helpless. I’m broken beyond repair.”

Jayne last spoke to Joe before he flew to Bangkok last Friday. The family want to know what happened to Joe, 30, but must wait until a postmortem examination is carried out. Joe, from Milngavie, near Glasgow, moved to Cambridge two years ago for work and lived around the corner from Jayne. He had travelled abroad with no insurance and now the family are trying to raise enough funds to fly him home and cover the costs of a funeral. The JustGiving page set up in his memory has raised more than £11,000. Jayne said: “I want to give my boy the send-off he deserves. It’s the last thing I can do for him.” To donate, visit www.justgiving.com/ crowdfunding/oliver-mcdonald
