Ian makes isle festival feel flush

-

BY JANE HAMILTON A SCOTS crime writing festival has secured new sponsorship – from Ian Rankin.

But like all good novels, there’s a twist – it’s not the global bestselling author … but a plumber from Rothesay who shares the same name as him.

Ian is backing the third annual Bute Noir. He said: “I am more than happy to support anything that promotes the island.

“Bute Noir does a fantastic job of that. And it does seem kind of appropriate, with my name, that I get involved.’

Author Rankin is fully behind his namesake’s sponsorship initiative.

He said: “I’d known of the other Ian as I’d seen pictures of his van online. Good on him for doing it. And good luck to Bute Noir too. It looks like being a cracking festival.”

Bute Noir takes place from August 3-5, with Yrsa Sigurdardottir and Chris Brookmyre among the authors appearing. SPENCER Matthews and Vogue Williams look a picture of happiness – and that’s before their Scots wedding.

Made in Chelsea star Spencer, 28, and his pregnant fiancee, 32, are expected to get hitched at his family’s Glen Affric Estate in the Highlands tomorrow. But they geared up for the big day by helping re-launch makeover medic Dr Darren McKeown’s clinic in Glasgow.

They even took a turn on the decks – so at least they have a back-up plan if the band don’t turn up...
