ERIN’S BEL OF THE BALL AS SCOTS FIGHT

SCOTLAND .. 2 BELARUS ...... 1

-

ERIN CUTHBERT saved Scotland’s blushes as they came from behind in this World Cup qualifier at Falkirk Stadium.

Karina Olkhovik gave Belarus a shock lead before the Chelsea midfielder struck a deadly double.

Although Shelley Kerr’s side hit the woodwork three times in the first half their profligacy in front of goal ALAN CAMPBELL meant they did it the hard way as they moved within three points of Switzerland in their qualifying group.

Kerr said: “We’re trying to play an attractive game but put ourselves under pressure by not taking the chances.”

Scotland could have taken the lead after only two minutes but Kim Little’s inviting cross just evaded Jane Ross and Jen Beattie at the far post.

Caroline Weir and Little then missed two great chances in the 20th minute.

Belarus made Scotland pay with their first attempt as Olkhovik’s 20-yard strike caught out Lee Alexander.

There was a double let-off for Belarus as Ross hit the post and Lisa Evans shot off the bar from the rebound.

The woodwork came to the rescue again as Claire Emslie hit the bar. Scotland finally levelled just before the break as Cuthbert netted from the tightest of angles.

Rachel Corsie, Beattie and Little missed chances after the interval before Cuthbert sealed it with a second goal.
