Sunshine and showers for big gigs

Rock legends Mick &Co are upping the ante as they get set to wow their legions of fans in Edinburgh with their first capital gig since 1999

SCOTS have the choice to see three of the world’s biggest musical acts today – The Rolling Stones, Beyonce and Jay-Z.

But they won’t have a say in the weather at The Stones gig in Edinburgh’s Murraryfield or Beyonce and husband Jay-Z’s show at Hampden Park in Glasgow – with sunglasses and waterproofs needed.

Gillian Smart from BBC Scotland weather said: “The Met Office has a yellow ‘be aware’ warning in force for most of Scotland – if you catch a shower, it’ll be slow to clear, and will make for poor road conditions.

“During the evening, the showers will start to fade, leaving late sunshine to end the day.”

THE greatest rock ’n’ roll band in history are back in Edinburgh for the first time in 19 years.

Today, rocking grandads Mick Jagger, who turns 75 next month, Keith Richards, 74, Charlie Watts, 77, and Ronnie Wood, 71, bring their No Filter tour to the capital.

It’s the seventh time The Rolling Stones have played Edinburgh – the first at the Usher Hall on September 19, 1964, the last at Murrayfield in 1999.

After 56 years at the top, the band have done what no other group have and kept working. They’ve always known how to get the crowd going – from screaming girls in the 60s to Mick wearing a Scotland football shirt in 1982 and the big spectacle of their stadium gigs of the last two decades.

Ronnie, who has brought his twins Gracie and Alice, two, to Edinburgh along with third wife Sally, said the band have an “unstoppable energy”. As for tonight’s show, he said: “It’s going to be good fun.”
