Wonder goal has left a Marc

-

BY DARREN LEWIS DANNY WELBECK believes Marcus Rashford is proof of England’s strength in depth as he hailed his striking rival.

The 20-year-old Manchester United ace was one of 10 changes against Costa Rica on Thursday from the side that beat Nigeria last weekend.

Yet Gareth Southgate was impressed by his virtuoso display – capped by a wonder goal – and the impressive performances from his incoming team-mates.

The England boss admitted he’d been left with a selection headache for the first game of the World Cup against Tunisia on June 18.

And the country is now split over whether Rashford or Raheem Sterling should play behind Harry Kane.

Arsenal frontman Welbeck, who came off the bench to head in the second in the 2-0 win, said: “There is a lot of talent all over the squad and healthy competition. It gives the manager a good selection headache and Marcus’s goal was incredible. He’s staked a claim.

“He’s got a lot of that youthful enthusiasm but he’s so mature around the place as well at times.

“Marcus has the qualities to have an impact on every single game. There are a lot players in there who can make an impact in any given moment.

“A lot of the players are really looking forward to going and seeing what affect they can have.”
