Erin: Great we’re still in the fight

- BY ALAN CAMPBELL

CHELSEA teenager Erin Cuthbert says her Scotland team-mates will fly out to Poland today relieved their World Cup hopes are still alive.

Shelley Kerr’s side dominated a one-sided game against Belarus on Thursday yet had to come from behind to win 2-1.

That was thanks to Cuthbert who scored twice and she said: “We’re relieved to take the three points to Poland. Now we can move on.

“When it was 1-1 the nerves were starting to kick in. But we did really well and the scoreline didn’t reflect the game at all.

“On another day the chances are going to go in – it was the final part that let us down.”

The win moves Scotland to within three points of Group 2 leaders Switzerland.

Only the group winners will qualify automatically for next summer’s World Cup in France before the four best runners-up in the seven groups will play off for the final Euro place.

The two goals made it six in 20 games for the former Glasgow City midfielder.

Cuthbert said: “I don’t really keep track of my goals.

“It was nice to score but for me it was all about the three points.

“Poland will be a different threat and we’ll have to be wary of them but we have enough attacking quality to break any team down.”

The sides meet in Kielce on Tuesday. Poland are third in the group and must win to have any chance of qualifying.
