Spurs hero Harry signs for six years

SCOTT McDERMOTT OLI’S ON A HIGH RESULTS

- FOOTBALL TODAY

sport@dailyrecord.co.uk retreated into their own box and tried to hang on. It had worked against France but the English were on another level.

But irrespective of what happens in today’s 3rd/4th place play-off against Turkey, Gemmill should arrive home with a sense of satisfaction.

After all, many of these young players will provide the core of the U21 squad he wants for the Euro campaign next year.

That a 16-year-old could be the kingpin is something Gemmill and SFA performance director Malky Mackay should be excited about.

A few eyebrows were raised when Billy Gilmour was called in for Toulon, despite his terrific season at Chelsea.

This was always going to be a step up, in terms of age and class, but such is Gilmour’s talent that he was one of the tournament’s standouts.

Without getting caught up in the hype this boy is the real deal. He’s two-footed, reads the game, can pass, shoot – he even loves a tackle.

But more than anything, Gilmour’s composure belies his tender years. Since Barry Ferguson broke through, Scotland hasn’t produced a midfielder like him.

He’s still got a long way to go but he’s on the right path at Stamford Bridge and we’ve got a proper player on our hands.

Gemmill and Mackay deserve praise and there were others who impressed.

Hibs centre-half Ryan Porteous has a real chance if he can force his way into Neil Lennon’s first team – he wasn’t fully fit at Toulon but still looked accomplished.

In midfield, Allan Campbell caught the eye. A Motherwell regular, he has a reputation as a dogged, combative kid. OLIVER BURKE insists his spell the Under-21s with has done him world of good the as he bids to of the Toulon bow out Tournament on a high. Scotland’s kids 3rd/4th face Turkey in place play-off the 3-1 semi-final today after a defeat to England. And West Brom ace Burke, who has five full caps, said: “I still have lot to learn and a I will make along the way, mistakes everyone does. “But I’ll learn from them and better for it. I be feel privileged had the to have experiences I’ve enthusiastic had and I’m about what’s to come.” BY ADRIAN KAJUMBA HARRY KANE has signed a bumper new Tottenham deal – and Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen are set to follow suit.

The England striker has penned a six-year contract understood to be worth up up to £200,000 per week including bonuses.

And Danish midfielder Eriksen and World Cupbound Alli are the next in line to get bumper deals.

It is a huge boost for Spurs as they prepare to move into their new stadium, having already secured boss Mauricio Pochettino on a new deal.

Kane said: “I am really excited. It’s a proud day. It’s been a great few seasons so I’m looking forward to the future.”
