Pena quits rehab for a new club

-

CARLOS PENA has checked out of his alcohol rehabilitation clinic two weeks early to join up with his new club in Mexico.

And the Rangers loan midfielder has been warned this is his last chance in football by Necaxa president Erneston Tinajero.

The 28-year-old has entered into a new six-month loan deal after he was sacked by Cruz Azul following a series of embarrassing off-field, alcohol-related incidents.

Pena then voluntarily checked himself into rehab in a clinic owned by Mexican boxing legend Julio Cesar Chavez and was supposed to be in for “at least a month”.

But Pena has taken the decision to walk out of the clinic after less BY ALAN MARSHALL than two weeks and has immediately joined his new club in training.

But he has been warned that any misdemeanour will see him axed.

Tinajero said: “Carlos has promised to give us everything for the next six months and that’s why he wanted to join in our training early.

“He seems to be very strong mentally and he is obviously a natural talent. He’s well aware of what the consequences will be if he lapses back into his old ways.

“Yes it’s a risk but so is every contract given to every footballer in the world.

“Our manager Marcelo Michel Leano asked me to sign him and I trust his judgment.”
