Campaign complaint an embarrassment
I REALLY hope the Scottish Conservatives are embarrassed by their MP Ross Thomson, who has raised a complaint against a Scottish Government campaign video.
The offending topic? A campaign celebrating the impact of migrants to Scotland.
No wonder Nicola Sturgeon called it “one of the most pathetic political interventions ever.” The We are Scotland campaign is about promoting Scotland as a welcoming and tolerant place to choose to live and work.
It is also about ensuring we never allow a harmful, divisive rhetoric to take hold – particularly at a time when the Tories’ hostile environment is resulting in staff shortages in our NHS and attempts to deport talented and valued Scots like Denzel Darku and 10-year-old orphan Giorgi Kakava.
If Thompson thinks it is in any way controversial to set out an inclusive, positive advert to attract talent to Scotland, then that speaks volumes about his own attitudes.
The Scottish Tories’ negativity about Scotland is draining, their anti-immigrant rhetoric has absolutely no place here, and their support for the Tory Government’s hostile environment, austerity and Brexit Britain is extremely damaging.
Meanwhile, the SNP are working harder than ever to shape a better future for everyone who chooses to make Scotland their home.
