World of a difference in house prices

THE average house price has risen by more than £110,000 since Scotland last qualified for the World Cup.

House sales have increased by 175 per cent since 1998 – from £63,559 then to £174,712 today, research by the Bank of Scotland shows.

Inverness has seen the biggest rise – with the average £53,118 in 1998 compared to £190,537 now.

Westhill, Aberdeensh­ire, is still the most expensive town to buy a home. In 1998, properties came with an average price tag of £91,746. Today it’s £250,787.

In 1998, the average price of a pint of lager was £1.89. Now, it is £3.63.
