I’ve pushed boat out in bid to land 15th Major

- BY EUAN McLEAN

TIGER WOODS warned players could miss their US Open tee-time because of traffic chaos around gridlocked Shinnecock Hills.

The superstar found a sneaky way to beat the congestion problems that have plagued the start of the week – by staying on his luxury yacht anchored off the Long Island coast.

His £30million ship, aptly named Privacy, will be his home for the duration of the tournament as he strives

to claim a fairytale comeback Major win 10 years after his last US Open triumph.

But the vast majority of players and caddies are not lucky enough to have that option as horror stories of three-hour commutes to the course have defined the early part of the week at the competition.

And Woods warned that some players could face disqualification for missing their slot if something can’t be done to ease the congestion, with thousands more spectators expected to flock to the course ahead of the competitive rounds beginning tomorrow.

He said: “A few guys so far this week have said it has taken them two-and-a-half to three hours from the hotel.

“And there’s a good chance that someone might miss their time.

“You get a little traffic, you get maybe a little fender bender – it’s not inconceivable someone could miss their time.

“I’m happy where I am. Sag Harbor is a cute little town.

“It has been nice to kind of get away from the tournament scene and go there to my yacht and just really enjoy it.”
