HOLIDAY FALL DAD LIES INJURED ON ROCKS FOR 7 HRS John, 57, suffers serious head injuries

- BY JAMES MONCUR

A SCOTS tourist lay badly hurt on rocks for seven hours after falling from a sea wall in Majorca. John Anderson was suffering from serious head injuries and the onset of hypothermia when he was eventually found. He was taken to hospital, where he had emergency surgery. John was found on rocks below a high sea wall at El Toro beach, near the resort of Santa Ponsa, at about 9am on Tuesday. He had been there all night. The 57-year-old, from Shetland, flew to Majorca with his wife Ellen, 59, and daughter Eilidh, 27, at the weekend. Local reports claimed he had spent a night out with his family and friends before the fall. It is understood John had decided to stay behind to smoke a cigarette while the rest of the group went back to their hotel. He was taken to the Son Espases University Hospital in the island’s capital Palma.

John is well-known in Shetland. He works as a shore superintendent with the Lerwick Port Authority and is an administrator for the island’s LGBT Facebook page.

The islander had enjoyed a holiday at the same resort this time last year.

According to his Facebook page, he flew from Glasgow on Saturday night but his flight was delayed for several hours.

John eventually arrived in Port Adriano, close to where he fell, on Sunday morning and took a photo from his apartment window.

He went on a “cultural shopping trip” in the local town centre with his wife and daughter just hours before the incident happened.

A worker at the Lerwick Port Authority said yesterday that John had been due back at work in two weeks.

John fell just hours after an Irish teenager plunged from a hotel balcony in the same resort.

Jack Walsh, from Limerick, had only been in Santa Ponsa for a few hours when the accident happened early on Tuesday.

The 19-year-old was left in a critical condition after he fell trying to climb down from a fifth-floor balcony.

Locals in Limerick said Jack’s family, including his parents Tony and Sandra and his sisters Tara and Orla, are devastated.

It is understood members of the family have travelled to his bedside in the Son Espases University Hospital.
