Nancy Glen salvage job cost £1.1m

-

BY SALLY HIND THE operation to salvage the stricken Nancy Glen and recover the bodies of the victims cost £1.1million.

Documents have revealed how ministers had to override strict rules on contract tendering to speed up the process of bringing the fishing vessel to the surface.

The Scottish Government stepped in after the vessel sank in Loch Fyne, Argyll and Bute, on January 18, claiming the lives of Duncan MacDougall, 46, and Przemek Krawczyk, 38. JONNY Adam is one of the world’s best drivers that you’ve probably never heard of.

He can stroll down any street in Fife without being recognised or pestered for an autograph.

And it’s just how the Kirkcaldy native likes it as he prepares for the latest test of his astonishing racing career.

This weekend, the modest 33-year-old is hoping to rekindle the magic of Scottish motorsports when he defends his title at the Le Mans 24-hour race.

He has lady luck plastered over his helmet and overalls but knows it will take skill and nerve to beat ex-Formula One champions Jensen Button and Fernando Alonso.

And last year, the Aston Martin driver did just that with a thrilling final lap overtake of a Chevrolet Corvette to win the coveted Le Mans GTE Pro class title.

Jonny, who lives in Warwick, close to Aston Martin’s HQ, with his fiancee, said Le Mans is like no other race, especially for Scottish drivers.

But he revealed he could do with an extra delivery of home-grown treats in the build-up to the start.

He said: “Le Mans is very special. It’s the biggest sports car race in the world and the class I’m in is probably the blue-riband event for manufacturers.

“Last year, I was the only Scot in the race, but this year Paul di Resta will be flying the flag alongside me – it’s really good to have him on the grid. We’re really proud to represent Scotland in such a prestigious race.

“But being so far from home means I can’t get my hands on any Tunnock’s Tea Cakes, which is the only negative.”

And he added: “This will be my third year in the race. There’s always pressure on drivers but now we’ve won it once, some of that pressure has been relieved a bit.

“My fiancee works for the team and is Scottish and I know both our families and friends will be glued to their TVs wishing us well.

He added: “I’m pretty anonymous when I return home, which is how I like it.”
