HIT AND RUN PUTS BOY, 10 IN HOSPITAL
Hunt for BMW driver who raced away
A SCHOOLBOY was rushed to hospital after being hit by a car in a horror hit and run in the capital at the weekend.
The 10-year-old was left with a broken arm when the vehicle hit him as he crossed a road in Edinburgh on Saturday.
The car, believed to be a white BMW, raced away from the scene without stopping.
It’s not known if the car was stolen.
A police spokesman said: “About 2pm on Saturday on West Granton Road, near to junction with Royston Mains Street, Edinburgh, there was a serious road crash where a 10-year-old boy was struck by a car.
“The vehicle failed to stop, leaving the boy with a fractured arm, requiring hospital treatment.
“It is believed to be a white BMW car. After the collision, it continued west.
“Anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has information about the vehicle or driver involved, is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 2152 of 16/6.”
The north side of Edinburgh has been plagued with motorbike thefts and reckless driving in recent years, with locals campaigning for more police and stiffer sentences.
Last year, two men who seriously injured a 10-year-old boy in a 50mph motorbike hit and run were put behind bars.
Meanwhile, police are still hunting for the driver of a stolen Audi A3 who caused a fatal fireball crash in the city last month and drove off.
Jonny Smith was driving his car in Edinburgh’s Maybury Road when he was killed in the fourvehicle smash on May 25.
