Werner thrilled to be re-United with pal Csaba

-

NEW Dundee United first-team coach Werner Burger insists the pressure of chasing European football alongside Csaba Laszlo at Hearts will stand them in good stead for a promotion push.

The duo have been reunited at Tannadice after a successful partnership in Edinburgh that included guiding the Jambos to a third-place finish in 2009.

German Burger was pivotal as Laszlo’s No.2 throughout that spell in Gorgie, as well as during stints with MTK Budapest and Dunajska Streda, and is determined to bring a winning mentality to United.

He said: “This is my second time BY ALAN MARSHALL in Scotland and hopefully I can support Csaba and bring my experience to the club to make sure we reach our big target.

“Hearts were in the Premiership at the time and the target was to qualify for Europe. The pressure was still there. This will be the same but I am very positive.

“I said at Hearts the Scottish attitude is a little bit like the Germans. The players are always willing to work hard.

“We need to bring our ideas and mentality to the team. If you have a big target you need a team who have the mindset to reach it.”

And Burger is under no illusions about the target that must be reached this term with United seeking to build a squad capable of returning to the Premiership.

He said: “Every effort needs to be to win promotion.

“Normally there are four or five clubs with the same target so there will be a lot of competition.”

Laszlo and Burger tasted defeat at home just seven times in their Hearts days and want to turn Tannadice into a fortress.

Burger said: “The club have already sold many more season tickets than last season so that is a positive signal. It is vital our stadium is like our castle. We need strength and quality at home.”
