Holt pulls out trip as Fleetwood target deal

- BY GAVIN BERRY

JASON HOLT has skipped Rangers’ pre-season trip to Spain to hold talks with former Ibrox team-mate Joey Barton over a move to Fleetwood.

New Light Blues boss Steven Gerrard is keen for Holt to remain a part of his squad but the 25-year-old is mulling over a switch.

Holt could still fly out to Andalusia as early as today if he decides against joining the Cod Army to extend his three-year stay at Rangers.

Newly-appointed Fleetwood boss Barton and assistant Clint Hill both played with Holt during their time at Ibrox.

But while Gerrard is keen to keep him the Ibrox careers of flop trio Eduardo Herrera, Fabio Cardoso and Harry Forrester are almost certainly over.

They were left out of yesterday’s travelling party and it’s the clearest sign yet they don’t have a future under Gerrard.

Signed by Mark Warburton, Forrester spent last season on loan at Wimbledon while Pedro Caixinha paid £1.5m for Mexican striker Herrera who scored just twice.

Portuguese stopper Cardoso cost £1.3m but the arrival of Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson have pushed him down the pecking order.

Katic and Goldson, along with fellow new boy Ovie Ejaria, will join the rest of the Rangers squad in Spain.

Lee Wallace didn’t board the flight with it decided it would be best for him to continue rehabilitation from a groin injury in Glasgow.

Glenn Middleton and Serge Atakayi are in the group after being promoted from the youth side.
