Halkett: It’s more about playing than the money
BY ALAN MARSHALL LIVINGSTON captain Craig Halkett is hoping the financial rewards will come later in his career after admitting regular football is more important than a bigger pay cheque.
The defender signed a new one-year deal with the Premiership newcomers earlier this week despite more lucrative offers on the table from two unnamed top-flight clubs and teams south of the border.
Halkett has become a mainstay in the Lions team since leaving Rangers two-and-a-half years ago and insists remaining with the West Lothian outfit was the best option.
The 23-year-old said: “I have a really good attachment to the club having been there for two-and-a-half years.
“Going down to League One and getting back-toback promotions is a great achievement and I really enjoy it here.
“Playing every week in the top league in Scotland is a big thing at my age.
“It wasn’t necessarily about money, it was about playing and the Livingston offer was the right one.
“I had a couple of Premiership clubs in Scotland interested and a few south of the border too.
“It wasn’t about the money for me.
“As long as everything goes well and I progress in my career in the way I have then I would like to think that the money will come later on.”
