McGregor prefers to lead quiet life off the pitch but plans on making big noise again on it next season

and Hoops team-mates posting their every move on Twitter or Instagram.

But McGregor values his private life to such as extent he’s happy to slide into the background when the boots come off.

You won’t catch him posting pictures of his dinner online because he’s more preoccupied with satisfying his hunger for success.

McGregor said: “I’m pretty much a private guy. When I’m playing my football I’m working – and that’s it.

“When I’m away from it I have a small circle of people that I really trust and I think that’s the way it should stay.

“I don’t think you should get ahead of your station and start posting things on social media, it’s just not my style.

“I don’t do it and I think it has worked for me so far, so why change it? My life is pretty much public 95 per cent of the time so when you have time off you want to enjoy it with people you are close to.

“When you go home and you are around the people that you want to be around, it’s about you and them enjoying your time together.

“Football is my job and it’s amazing – it’s what I’ve always wanted to do. I’m living the dream playing with Celtic and it’s an incredible achievement. “I was on Twitter for three or four months when I was at Notts County on loan and that was it. “But, on Twitter, for every one good thing you see, you see 10 bad things and that’s just not for me. I’m not that way inclined. “I came off it straight away and I’ve never had any inkling to go back on it. I k n o w you see people with their opinions on it and I know it’s modern- BY CRAIG SWAN IN AUSTRIA day football and life. Just about everybody in our dressing room is on social media but I just feel like keeping my private life to myself.”

McGregor might prefer to stay quiet off the pitch but he has been making a big noise on it.

Having convinced boss Brendan Rodgers of his value through the second part of the first Treble campaign, the playmaker was a standout throughout last season’s repeat performance.

Massive displays and goals in the biggest of matches cemented his place as a key man.

Looking back, he believes his stunner in their Champions League clash with Bayern Munich last October was a turning point for his self-belief.

And McGregor isn’t resting on laurels – he’s determined to maintain his high standards in the coming season.

He said: “Even though it is in my head that I finished last season really well and scored big goals, this is the sort of club that just keeps you hungry all the time.

“You still want to come back into pre-season and impress and try to do all the same things. In football, if you don’t do that then you very quickly get forgotten about.

“So it’s pretty much more of the same for me. In the last few pre-seasons I’ve come in and worked really hard. This time it is exactly the same, work hard, keep fit and try to impress the manager.

“I feel as if I am established in the squad and the team. If you are doing everything in training and well in the games then you know you are in with a good shout.

“The Bayern Munich game last season and my goal was probably a big moment.

“You want to impress in the big games and affect those big matches – and Bayern are one of the top teams in the world.

“To score in that game gave me the belief to think: ‘Right, you are worthy of playing here, you are playing for Celtic.’

“Since then my confidence has grown and I’ve started to perform and play in big games and affect them as well.

“It all came from that moment against Bayern. Maybe a year before that people had been criticising me in the big games and saying that maybe I wasn’t ready for the Champions League.

“It is good confidence-wise as well that you know you are going to be in the manager’s plans. But you just have to keep proving you are worthy of your place.

“You can see that 90 per cent of the players have kicked on and gone to another level with the manager.

“It is the exact same for me. I’ve gone way up in terms of every aspect of my game.”

McGregor credits Rodgers for his ascent and added: “He is always positive. Every day you come in it is always about how can we get better? It is, ‘OK, that game was fine but next game let’s be better.’

“You can see the respect we have for him. When he is watching training you go that extra bit for him and you get that back. There is that trust from the players.”
