Cool Logan saves mum’s life with 999 call
Sepsis could have killed Debbie, 39
A SCHOOLBOY was hailed a hero for saving his mum when she fell ill with potentially deadly sepsis.
Logan Johnston, 13, flew into action when he found mum Debbie slipping in and out of consciousness on the sofa.
Instead of panicking, he rang his gran and dialled 999. He even contacted his aunt to come to look after his two younger sisters.
Debbie was whisked to hospital in an ambulance and, because she received treatment quickly, she is now on the mend.
The 39-year-old mum, BY NICOLA FINDLAY of East Kilbride, said: “I don’t know what I would have done without Logan. My mum said in hospital that if it hadn’t been for him, she doesn’t think I would have woken up.
“He probably saved my life – he is my hero.”
Debbie who has no underlying health problems, started feeling unwell on Saturday.
She said: “I had an infection which very quickly turned into sepsis.
“Logan came downstairs just after 10pm and found me on the couch.
“He said I was unsettled, not fully conscious and
when I was, I was talking nonsense. My blood pressure had hit the floor and my temperature was sky high.
“Logan must have got such a fright but he managed to hold it together to call my mum Jean then call 999 and tell the paramedics about my symptoms.”
Logan said: “My mum looked like she was in pain. I knew something wasn’t right. I was scared but I called my granny and then an ambulance and stayed with my mum until the paramedics arrived.”
Sepsis kills about 4000 people a year in Scotland.
