BOSS PICK-ED REAL WINNER

-

JORDAN HENDERSON confessed he is forever in debt to Jordan Pickford – for saving him from being England’s shootout villain.

The Liverpool ace was the only Three Lions player to miss a penalty against Colombia.

But Pickford’s save from Carlos Bacca ensured Gareth Southgate’s side went through.

And Henderson hailed fellow former Sunderland star Pickford for the save that got him off the hook.

He said: “I can’t thank him enough, I’m forever in his debt. He deserves it. He got a bit of criticism last week – undeservedly - so I’m so happy for him to achieve that.

“He made some fantastic saves in the game and I’m delighted for him and for everyone.

“We’re a really close group, you can see that.

“It’s difficult when you miss and nothing can be said that’s going to make it alright, but it’s not about me. We won and that’s the main thing. We now need to recover and prepare well for Sweden.”

Henderson insisted his penalty miss had not put him off taking another one in a shootout but said he understood if Gareth Southgate opted to choose someone else.

He said: “It wouldn’t put me off taking another one but it might put Gareth off.

“I’d take another one but it’s down to the manager. I’d understand if he chose someone else.”
