Bren hails his World Cup stars

- BY CRAIG SWAN

BRENDAN RODGERS last night saluted his World Cup heroes Dedryck Boyata and Mikael Lustig. The Celtic boss is full of pride after two of his squad made it through to the last eight of Russia 2018. Boyata, left, and Belgium are now getting set for a quarter-final showdown with Brazil. And, while Lustig is

suspended for Sweden’s crunch against Gareth Southgate’s England on Saturday, Rodgers believes the achievements of the pair at Russia 2018 are admirable.

Boyata and Lustig will both miss key Champions League qualifiers due to their national team commitments.

However, the Celtic manager refused to take a selfish outlook.

A smiling Rodgers last night said: “It’s brilliant, although we’ve got to sort this back four out!

“It’s fantastic for them. I have obviously been in contact with the two players throughout the tournament through text and what have you.

“I’m delighted for Dedryck.

“He’s had a great run in the team there before coming out for Vincent Kompany, however, he’s still very much a part of their squad.

“It’s brilliant, the World Cup quarter-finals on Friday for him.

“We just heard the Sweden result after our game on Tuesday, so for Mika it’s absolutely brilliant.

“It’s great for them, I’m delighted for the two of them.”
