A PROBE has been launched after a teenage Scottish soldier died suddenly at an Army base.

Infantry soldier Alistair McLeish was found dead at a military barracks in Yorkshire.

Highlander McLeish was a member of the Highlanders, 4th Battalion, Royal Regiment of Scotland.

His body was discovered on Tuesday at Catterick Garrison, Yorkshire.

A fellow soldier from his battalion posted a tribute on social media.

He wrote: “RIP wee guy. Only a couple of weeks I was telling you you were a good wee boxer with potential, now you’re gone. Sad news to hit the battalion. Soldiers need to look out for each other, you’re family at the end of the day.

“If you see a change in someone you know, then get on it and do what you can to help if possible.

“If you can’t, approach someone you think might be more helpful and stop this from happening again.” The 19-year-old’s family were notified immediately.

There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

Alistair joined the Army straight from leaving Selkirk High School in the Borders.

An Army spokesman said: “We can confirm the death of Highlander Alistair McLeish.

“This is currently being investigated and it would be inappropriate to comment further. Our thoughts are with the soldier’s family and friends”

Veterans charity Who Dares Cares posted: “Another goes to the RV in the sky. Rest in peace.

“Brave men and women do their duty for us. Let us do our duty for them.”
