been out drinking with friends in the town. It looks like he doesn’t have a care in the world and he has never shown remorse for his crime.”
Melvin was 17 when he killed call centre worker Robert, 51, in a savage unprovoked assault in Dundee. In 2007, he was ordered to serve a minimum of 15 years in prison. At the High Court in Glasgow, Lord Hardie said the incident had been a particularly savage murder.
Melvin, from Dundee, repeatedly kicked and stamped on Robert, causing horrific facial injuries. Forensic experts found a perfect imprint from the sole of Melvin’s trainers on Robert’s face.
Lord Hardie told Melvin: “Hopefully it will be on your conscience for the rest of your life and you will think every day what you did to that man.”
Melvin was on probation at the time of the murder and had previous convictions, including an assault and a firearms offence.
The Record revealed in December how he was pictured enjoying a trip to Nando’s while on home leave from prison. The photo appeared on his sister’s Facebook page.
At the time, Scottish Tory justice spokesman Liam Kerr said: “The act of killing another human being causes shockwaves through families and entire communities, which takes years to subside.
“It must be horrific as a victim to learn individuals are on the streets again but to see them online will come as a worse shock.
“Joking and taking selfies does not show much consideration for the feelings of a community.”
On Facebook, Melvin claims he has been in a relationship with Fraser since April. The pair were unavailable for comment at her home in Dundee.
