Heartbroken family’s funeral request

- BY MICHAEL REYNOLDS

THE heartbroken parents of Alesha MacPhail want mourners to wear pink as they say goodbye to their little girl.

The six-year-old’s funeral will take place on Saturday at 11am and the family want people to brighten up the occasion.

MacGregor Family Funeral Directors, from Coatbridge, shared details on their Facebook page.

They wrote: “Alesha’s family would welcome and be comforted by the attendance of anyone affected by this tragedy who wishes to pay their final respects.

“We ask that the community show their support and help the family through this tragedy and through this very difficult day in their lives.

“Mum and dad have requested that everyone wears something pink.”

The service will take place at Coats Funeral Home in Coatbridge.

Alesha was found dead earlier this month while she was visiting family on Bute.

Her mum Genie Lochrane yesterday thanked those who attended a vigil in Airdrie’s West End Park on Friday night.

She said: “I just want to thank everyone who came along tonight to remember Alesha and to support us. It means so much.”

A 16-year-old charged with raping and murdering Alesha appeared in court for a second time on Friday.

The teen, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, made no plea during a private hearing at Greenock Sheriff Court.

He was remanded in custody.
