The third came in 24 minutes, Frear curling home an unstoppable effort after Curtis Main’s free-kick had initially been charged down.
Frear completed his hat-trick four minutes later. Cadden played it into his path and the winger bent a shot round Antell.
Well made it 5-0 just before half-time when Main hit a speculative 30-yard shot which was somehow fumbled over the line by the luckless Antell.
Unsurprisingly the pace dropped in the second half as Robinson handed Gorrin, Sammon and Johnson their debuts. But by that stage it was already job done.
Edinburgh City boss Jim McDonaugh said: “It’s a sore one but I’ve never been so delighted to lose a match 5-0 after trailing 5-0 at the interval. But we won’t be judged on games against Motherwell. We just need to be ready for August 4.”
