Family in letter bomb fear

- BY MICHAEL PRINGLE

A FAMILY have been forced to flee their home after a suspected letter bomb was planted outside their front door by a stalker.

Bomb disposal experts were called to Shieldhall Road in Drumoyne on the south side of Glasgow on Thursday morning.

Using a robot, they carried out a controlled explosion on what police have described as a “suspicious package”.

A source close to the intended recipient said they suspect the package was sent by a man whose advances were rejected by a female member of the family.

It’s believed her mother opened the front door of the family home to find it lying on the doorstep. On opening it, she found batteries inside attached to what appeared to be an explosive device.

It’s understood the woman’s daughter had at first received gifts through the mail from a man she barely knows.

After spurning his advances, she then started receiving text messages sent from a variety of different telephone numbers.

The source added: “They are moving out of the house after finding this on the doorstep.”

A police spokesman said: “Police and emergency services were in attendance after a suspicious package was found outside a house.

“There have been no arrests and inquiries are ongoing.”
