SUNESSON A MAJOR HELP

-

ADAM SCOTT admits luring caddie Fanny Sunesson out of retirement has fired his Open bid.

The Aussie recently split with bagman Dave Clark – who took over from Tiger Woods’s old ally Steve Williams – amid a slump.

Sunesson helped Nick Faldo win four Majors and worked with Henrik Stenson before quitting six years ago, becoming a swing instructor and helping players work on their mental game.

But 2013 Masters champ Scott has her back on the links and it’s done the trick as a 70 left him one under at halfway.

He said: “Fanny is a fantastic caddie. To be able to have that experience out there with me is certainly comforting. We’ve gotten along really well. “She’s picked up on my game quickly and we think in a very similar way.

“It’s been really easy working with her the last five or six days. I’d like to be able to put her to the test a bit over the weekend if we can get in contention.”

Their deal is just for Carnoustie although could be extended as Scott said: “It would be up to her but I don’t think she’s planning a comeback. I was being a bit opportunistic in contacting her and coaxing her out of retirement. But she’s having a good week. We’ll take it one week at the moment.”

And Scott reckons his own Major experience can make a big difference tomorrow.

He said: “I definitely think there’s a case for something like that when it comes down to the final nine holes.”

I’m certainly not the No.1 player in the world that ends in Johnson
