Pals who ‘hero-worshipped’ US killers are jailed
TWO teens who planned to kill classmates in a Columbinestyle massacre have been jailed for 10 and 12 years.
Warped Thomas Wyllie and Alex Bolland “hero-worshipped” Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris, who killed 13 in Colorado in 1999 before taking their own lives.
The pair, 14 at the time of the plot, were so serious about the attack in Northallerton, Yorkshire, they had drawn up a “hit list” of pupils who had bullied and wronged them as well as teachers.
Consultant forensic psychiatrist Dr John Kent said Wyllie likely has mental health issues including “depression and an expression of personality characteristics which include cruelty, narcissism and psychopathy”.
He added an incident in which he carved his name into his ex’s lower back showed “elements of controlling and manipulation”.
The plotters, now 15, downloaded bombmaking manuals and researched weapons.
Wyllie, described as the leader, kept a diary with a page of “stuff we need”, including napalm, firearms and pipe bombs.
It also said sorry for either committing “one of the worst atrocities in British history” or killing himself.
He wrote: “I just want to kill every single one of you f ****** . Everyone is filthy and deserve(s) to be shot, including me. I’ll play god and decide who to let live and die.”
In a hideout, he kept a rucksack filled with screws, boards and flammable liquid, which prosecutors suggested were for explosives.
It also contained a horror mask, a balaclava and cable ties.
Police interviewed the pair after Bolland told a pal about the plan – and Wyllie went back to researching Columbine minutes after officers left. Police found his hideout in October last year.
A Leeds Crown Court jury found them guilty of conspiracy to murder in May. Wyllie was also convicted of unlawful wounding. Wyllie got 12 years, Bolland 10.
Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb told them: “You were 14 when you planned to murder teachers and pupils in a reenactment of the Columbine massacre.
“You hero-worshipped the teenagers who carried out that atrocity.”
