Slimmer Dave loses 20st with daily walk

- BY DANYA BAZARAA

A SUPER slimmer has lost over 20st after walking 6,000 miles – the equivalent of going from John O’Groats to Land’s End seven times.

Dave Lancaster weighed 34st 8lb at his heaviest and struggled even to walk to the end of his street.

He had Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, joint pain, high cholesterol and sleep apnoea, which can cause people to stop breathing in their sleep.

A poor diet of takeaways washed down with two or three bottles of wine every night meant his trousers were an enormous 8XL with a 66in waist.

The call centre manager, 45, who lives alone in Warwick, West Mids, said: “I found it difficult to walk to the end of my road. I went out so rarely except for work, it felt as I was getting bigger my world was shrinking.”

Then he joined Slimming World in April 2016 and began taking daily strolls, building up to 10 miles a day. He started preparing healthy meals from scratch and soon the weight started to fall off.

Now he has been crowned Slimming World’s Man of the Year, has been taken off medication for his ailments and also no longer needs glasses, an unexpected bonus of lower blood sugar levels.

He said: “I can fit in the seat of any car, bus, train or plane. I don’t have to worry about breaking furniture anymore. I can run up stairs... the list is endless.

“I’ve got my life back and I couldn’t be happier.

“The world isn’t shrinking, it’s getting bigger and bigger by the day.”
