Rocker’s stage heart scare
BY CARLA CALLAGHAN A BAND were forced to cut short a festival set while performing their single Hearts on Fire – when the drummer had to be rushed to hospital with a heart problem.
The King Lot, from West Lothian, were playing at Convoy in The Park at Donnington, Leicestershire, when Chris Gillon, 45, started to suffer dizziness and shortness of breath.
The dad of two, from South Queensferry, was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Derby, where a defibrillator was used to slow down his heart rate.
Rocker Chris, who is recovering at home after spending a night in hospital, said: “It was incredibly ironic that we had just performed Hearts on Fire from the new album A World Without Evil.
“We can all see the funny side now that I am OK.”
He put down his health scare last weekend to “a combination of heat and stress”, adding: “I started to feel nauseous and dizzy earlier in the day but shrugged it off and carried on with doing the show.
“However, we had no choice but to cut our set short as I couldn’t continue.
“I feel like I have been kicked by a horse due to having my heart kickstarted, which is ironic as my nickname is Thunderhoof.
“I’m a bit traumatised and bruised but I’ll be OK.”
The band, made up of Chris, lead singer and bassist Jason Sweeney and guitarist Jay Moir, are due to play Dreadnought Rock in Bathgate on Friday.
