EYES ON THE PRIZE

- BY GARRY OWEN

EXPERT EYE (3.35) can gain his first Group 1 success in the Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.

Sir Michael Stoute’s colt looked a world beater when hacking up in the Vintage Stakes here last year only to flop in both the Dewhurst and 2000 Guineas at Newmarket.

But the son of Acclamation bounced back in the Jersey at Ascot and will take some stopping with a repeat show.

LIL ROCKERFELLER (1.50) can make a winning return to the Flat in the Goodwood Handicap.

The seven-year-old has been a great servant to Neil King over hurdles and ended the Jump season with a fine second to Call Me Lord in a Sandown Grade 2.

A winner on a fast surface for Richard Hannon, the gelding should have too much class for these rivals off an inviting mark.

Some exciting types clash in the Matchbook Handicap but I’m siding with INFRASTRUCTURE (2.25). Progressive over shorter, Martyn Meade’s gelding recorded a clear career best when comfortably dismissing Mekong over 1m 4f at Salisbury.

The three-year-old remains nicely unexposed over today’s trip and I don’t think a 7lb hike will stop him. RUMBLEINTHEJUNGLE (3.0) can claim a terrific renewal of the Molecombe for Richard Spencer. The juvenile did it nicely on his debut at Salisbury before an eye-catching fourth to Shang Shang Shang in the Group 2 Norfolk at Royal Ascot.

This strapping colt has plenty of scope for improvement and can build on that cracking effort.

WORKBENCH (3.45) can maintain Dan Skelton’s glory run in the Gleneagles Chase at Perth. The 10-year-old hit back second to Mont Royale at Uttoxeter and remains fairly treated on his best form. STRAIT OF MAGELLAN (2.35) can claim the staying hurdle for Nicky Richards. The six-year-old caught the eye when third to Politeness and can come on plenty upped to three miles. John McConnell’s PEARL OF

THE WEST (3.10) looks a warm order in the Graham Lowson Hurdle. The gelding made an impressive timber debut at Bellewstown and should be primed after his good third in a hot Curragh handicap.

John Gosden said star juvenile Calyx will miss the rest of the season due to injury.
