You’ve Scot no clue how hard SPFL is
STEPHEN McGINN has warned St Mirren’s English new boys they will come a cropper if they think the Premiership will be a stroll.
The Buddies captain, who had stints at Watford and Sheffield United, knows some players down south underestimate the Scottish game.
Alan Stubbs has used his knowledge of the English leagues by adding the likes of Josh Heaton, Cody Cooke and Jeff King as he prepares to lead St Mirren in the top flight.
McGinn admitted it’s his responsibility as skipper to drum it into them how difficult life will be for the newly-promoted side.
Ahead of the visit of Dundee on Saturday, he said: “I’ve played in England and it’s a feeling, not by everyone I might add, that it’s easy up here.
“I suppose if you come up here with a chip on your shoulder and not willing to work hard then the boys won’t take you on – even in your own dressing room.
“It’s such a tough league with so many good players. If you’re not willing to adapt and work hard then you won’t last long.
“With the market the manager has been going for so far, the boys that have come in have no idea about Scottish football.
“When we played Queen’s Park in the Betfred Cup I don’t think they realised the stature of the stadium they were about to play in.
“As captain you ram it down their throat how successful we’ve been for the last 18 months and how we want to keep that going as long as we can.”
