COP HAD EXTREME CHILD PORN STASH
A POLICE officer was caught with sick child porn, including a video of a baby in a nappy.
Darryl Burnside, 50, was serving in Oban when colleagues raided his home and found the indecent images on a tablet and Kindle.
The shamed constable retired from the force before his appearance at the town’s sheriff court on Tuesday.
Burnside, who was once hailed a hero after rescuing a boy from the sea, was snared with indecent photos of children, including a girl aged between eight and 10.
The court was told the baby in the twisted video was less than 18 months old and “in obvious distress”.
Some material discovered was classed as category A – the most extreme on the scale.
Burnside, of Oban, Argyll and Bute, admitted possessing the images between September 13, 2016 and last October 13. Fiscal Eoin McGinty said: “On October 11, 2017, intelligence indicated that on September 27, 2017, an IP address was involved in an online chat forum where an indecent image of a female child was uploaded. The website was known to police as one used by people who have a sexual interest in children.”
Officers from Oban and the cyber crime unit went to Burnside’s home. McGinty said the accused was present with his wife. During the course of the search a number of items were recovered including a Kindle and a Dragon tablet.
Burnside later admitted owning them and to having used them to look at pornography involving underage girls.
Burnside was put on the sex offenders’ register. Sentence was deferred until next month for reports.
