RECORD sales and cut-price taxes – global corporations such as Amazon just keep on laughing all the way to the bank.
The punchline isn’t even funny, it’s a two-fingered salute to Britain.
An investigation shows Amazon UK paid just £4.6million in tax despite selling £8.8BILLION of goods.
That’s the same firm who get tempted to come to places like Scotland with the offer of public grants.
We’re paying quite a lot for the benefit of these online retailers.
In a country rife with inequality, where austerity is driving families to poverty, wealthy companies need to pay a higher share.
The same goes for those individuals raking in the big money while moaning when anyone dares to question the lopsided tax regime.
The richest don’t even have to break any laws to stockpile wealth while paying a pittance back to the state. It’s written into the system.
And while Amazon chuck a few coppers back into the Treasury pot, other big name retailers pay a lot more while struggling to match their online rivals.
The massive sales Amazon enjoy clearly have little bearing on taxes paid.
It’s time customers took a stand and cut their profits down to size. Maybe then the penny will drop.
