Harrison takes on all comers as he returns to the ring for sparring sessions in Glasgow

-

DOUBLE world champion Scott Harrison was back in the ring yesterday – sparring with his son and other up-and-coming boxers.

The fighter made his return to the public eye at Go Live! at the Green, a daily programme of free activities running alongside the European Championships in Glasgow.

All comers were able to spar with and get tips from the ex-WBO world champ and former Commonwealth champ Charlie “The Mailman” Flynn.

Harrison’s dad Peter, who coaches from his Phoenix gym in the city’s east end, was also on hand to offer expert advice.

Taylor Hood, 18, a hot prospect from Glasgow City Boxing Club, threw several great punches while BY KEITH McLEOD Harrison absorbed the punishment with training pads.

She forced the former champ, who won the world featherweight crown twice, to make several defences, before admitting: “He is pretty good.” Taylor added: “He’s quite hard

to box against. It was great to be in there with him.” Taylor trains four or five times a week, juggling her sessions with her work as a coach with Glasgow Sport. But she said she may eventually go on to box full-time. Harrison said: “Taylor’s great – really sharp in the ring and a real hard puncher.

“She got great combinations as well, so I had to be careful in there. She’s throwing her shots with power and can definitely be a champion of the future.”
