United book open top bus parade...

Csaba’s team bonding tour of Auld Reekie

- BY DAVID McCARTHY

DUNDEE UNITED haven’t had much cause for open-top bus parades in recent years but they enjoyed one earlier this summer – in Edinburgh.

Captain Fraser Fyvie has revealed Csaba Laszlo took his new-look squad on a tour of the capital as part of a team bonding exercise they hope will help United recover from a couple of dreadful campaigns and get them out of the Championship.

Fyvie is recovering from injury right now but will be back to play his part in what he believes will be a successful season.

Ahead of tomorrow’s opener with Dunfermline, he said: “You have to bear in mind that we have had a turnaround of 12/13 players now and it takes time to gel.

“While the Betfred Cup results haven’t been good they’re basically pre-season games at the end of the day.

“We have been trying to work on a lot of things and I’m sure that come Saturday we’ll be all right.

“I definitely feel things are coming together. There are a lot of foreign boys coming in and they need to learn what the gaffer’s style is and how we want to play.

“Everyone is adapting well and we still have the core the gaffer wanted to keep as well as adding the new signings he wanted.

“So the manager has changed a lot of the staff and the chairman has come in and ripped everything back to the bare bones, which is brilliant. Hopefully, we’ll see the benefits of all that.

“We’ve done some team bonding with a day out in Edinburgh, which is a nice city and one that I know well from my time with Hibs.

“There was a bit of culture and a tour in that opentopped bus. The museums were fantastic too!”

The hard work starts with the visit of the Pars and Fyvie knows the Championship will be hugely competitive.

He added: “It’s a really strong league, with Ross County and Partick Thistle coming down.

“County have invested well in new players and you can’t forget Falkirk or Inverness who I’m sure will come strong. “United shouldn’t be in this division and, when the new lads met the chairman before signing, that was made clear to them right away. We are where we are for a reason, though, and it’s up to us to get back up.

“The most important thing for us is the league and we’ll be focused on that from now until the end of the

season.”

There was a bit of culture. The museums were fantastic too! FRASER FYVIE
