Downing Kohli would be dream come true for England’s Anderson

JAMES ANDERSON admits he’s dreaming of getting India captain Virat Kohli out this morning to win the Edgbaston Test for England.

Star man Kohli’s display was the stuff of nightmares for his rivals as he was still unbeaten on 43 at stumps on day three.

But England’s all-time leading wicket-taker Anderson would have had him for just 21 in his first-innings 149 if Dawid Malan had held a regulation slip catch.

And he’s determined to realise his dream of getting his man before India make the 84 runs they need to win after reaching 110 for five.

Anderson said: “We’ve got to give it everything we’ve got for the first 15-20 overs. It’s really exciting because you know we could do something special by winning this Test match.

“We’ll go to bed dreaming about getting Kohli out first thing. No one’s invincible in world cricket. We can get him.”

England are still in with a chance largely thanks to the all-round contribution of rising star Sam Curran.

The 20-year-old followed his first-innings four-wicket haul with a maiden Test half century to inspire the recovery second time round from 87 for seven to 180 all out.

Anderson said: “He showed guts to get us back in it when it looked like we were down and out. It was brilliant to see from such a young guy.”

England physio Craig de Weymarn has had an operation on the broken jaw he suffered in batting practice with Ben Stokes yesterday.
