Boydie feeds off stick and dines out on goals

KILLIE v ST J’STONE

-

TONY WATT knows Kris Boyd won’t worry about taking stick for his weight – because he can dine out on all the goals he’s scored. And the St Johnstone new boy knows Killie veteran Boyd will be as hungry as ever to get on the scoresheet in today’s Premiership opener. Former Celtic kid Watt has the same agent as Boyd and has called him up for advice at different stages of his career. Despite growing up on the other side of the Glasgow divide he always admired Boyd’s craft at Rangers. And he admits the man who bagged 23 goals for Kilmarnock last season presents a huge threat to Saints even at the age of 34. Watt laughs when he sees Boyd playing up to rival fans who taunt him about his size. And the Perth BY GORDON BANNERMAN striker said: “Some players are naturally big, others are small.

“But Boydie scores more goals than any skinny player so I’m sure he doesn’t care about supporters talking about his weight.

“He will be able to eat as much as he wants when he retires, from the money he has made scoring all these goals.

“Boydie just scores everywhere he goes. It’s scandalous.

“I know him through having the same agent and he has been brand new any time I’ve been looking for advice.

“He was born to score goals. It’s that simple. He came on in the recent cup game at Dumbarton and scored a hat-trick in half an hour.

“I was a Celtic fan growing up but always had respect for Boydie because of his record in front of goal.”

Watt hopes to get his career back on track in Perth after a wasted spell in Belgium with Leuven.

The Bhoy who scored that famous goal against Barcelona is now 24 and wants to make an impact in the Premiership after a disappointing loan spell at Hearts two years ago.

He said: “I’m excited about the prospect of the league campaign. It’s probably the first time since Charlton that I have been in the door for a few weeks before it all starts.

“Everyone has been brand new and I have scored a couple of goals in the Betfred Cup.

“It’s good to get off the mark and I didn’t want to go into the league with a zero beside my name.

“I felt I played well at Hearts but didn’t score enough goals. Hopefully people can judge me on my goal return here.”
