Albiehappy togetgood night’ssleep

LAURA KENNY has had one sleepless night after another lately while baby son Albie kips beside her.

But the four-time Olympic champion is still a nightmare for her rivals as she made it a golden double at the European Championships with victory in the women’s elimination race.

The 26-year-old held off Germany’s Anna Knauer to land the 12th European title of a glittering career.

And while she might be knackered Kenny insists it won’t slow her down on the track as she added to team pursuit success last week.

She said: “It was actually quite bad. He didn’t actually fall asleep until nine last night, the little sod.

“But you get used to it. I don’t even feel like I’ve had a lack of sleep anymore, I just come in and get on with it.”

The win put Kenny one up on team-mate Katie Archibald who can make it a round dozen as well if she defends her omnium title today – with the possibility of both picking up No. 13 in tomorrow’s madison.

Kenny said: “I didn’t even realise how many we had until we were told after the team pursuit.

“I was like ‘oh fair play, that’s quite a lot of gold’.”

Britain’s Oliver Wood was 10th in 40km points BY MARK WOODS race, won by Poland’s Wojciech Pszczolarski.

Scots ace Jack Carlin will go for glory today after he saw off Ukraine’s Andrii Vynokurov to move into the quarter-finals of the men’s sprint with Phil Hindes also qualifying.

But John Archibald just missed out on the last four of the individual pursuit, coming fifth on his Team GB debut.

The 27-year-old was disappointed but admitted he’s now focused on seeing his younger sister Katie go for a place in history.

He said: “She’ll do her usual and no matter what form she’s in, she’ll hammer everybody.”

Italy’s Marta Bastianelli was left delighted and exhausted as she made a decisive burst to win gold in the women’s road race through the streets of Glasgow after nearly three-and-a-half hours in the saddle.

Dani Rowe finished as the top Brit as she claimed 10th spot.

On the bars, Kelly Simm slipped to an eighth-placed spot with Georgia-Mae Fenton getting the same result on the floor.

But new hope Amelie Morgan finished the junior event with five medals, the most won by any British girl in history.
