Gerrard Whole world is against Rangers

Ibrox gaffer’s scathing attack on officials after controversial draw

- BY MICHAEL GANNON

STEVEN GERRARD has launched an astonishing attack on the Scottish football authorities and claimed referees have been giving Rangers a raw deal for years.

The rookie boss last night insisted the world is against Rangers and claimed two decisions cost his men points at Pittodrie.

Aberdeen grabbed a lastgasp leveller but Gerrard raged after being forced to play with 10 men for 78 minutes after petulant Alfredo Morelos’ controversial red card.

The Ibrox boss was also raging Dom Ball wasn’t sent

off for Dons – then claimed his club have been getting it in the neck from the men in black for years.

Gerrard said: “It seems like the world is against us today. But we’ll make sure we get better for that.

“We’ll make sure we play better and try to put results to bed because it looks like some more decisions will go against us as the season goes on.

“We need to try and use it to our advantage. It’s not just today, it’s been happening for a good while. I believe it’s been happening for seasons.

“I’ve watched footage. Look, I don’t think we ever get anything to go for us. Everything we have seen today is about Rangers so someone should give me answers on that.

“It is what it is. I can’t control if the issue is going to be ongoing. All I can do is give my opinion on it.”

The Gers gaffer blasted the decision to send off Morelos after just 12 minutes when the Colombian aimed a fly kick at Scott McKenna.

Gerrard, who will consider an appeal, said: “We will speak to him about the part he has played in it. But we feel hard done by because we felt he was provoked twice with violent barges.

“No way in the world was his kick out violent.

“We didn’t think he deserved a red.”

When asked if the Colombian was a target, Gerrard said: “I can’t prove that’s the case but two violent barges by McKenna, it seems people are out to wind him up.”

Gerrard was also fuming Ball wasn’t sent off for tugging back Josh Windass for the Gers penalty.

The Ibrox boss said: “There was no attempt to play the ball. So it’s beyond me how a card can’t be shown for that situation.

“That’s the rules, it doesn’t matter what my opinion on it is. The rules state that if you don’t make an attempt to play the ball, you should be punished. There was no punishment.”

Gerrard insisted his side had shown they are streets ahead of the Dons. He said: “Anyone in this stadium or watching on Sky will know we are a better team than Aberdeen. We’ve just proven it.

“I’m disappointed for my players. But I don’t go away from here sad. I actually loved what I saw.

“I think people are now starting to understand when I say Rangers are different now. We looked like the team with all the ideas, we looked like we wanted to play the game the right way.”

Gerrard is sweating on Ryan Jack after the midfielder was forced off late on against his old club after a nasty head knock and left Pittodrie in an ambulance.

The Gers boss said: “He was magnificent, especially with him being in a cauldron like today.

“I hope it won’t be long because he is vital for us.”
