Beeb drama goes bonking mad

Bosses all set for viewers’ moans

- BY NICOLA METHVEN

A SEX-FUELLED drama about a couple’s failing love life is set to become BBC1’s most controversial series ever. The graphic six-part Wanderlust tells of married couple Joy and Alan trying to regain their mojo – by spicing up their own encounters as well as having sex with other people. Creator Nick Payne said: “Often in dramas people kiss, then you cut to next morning. I’ve always wondered what happens if you make the sex the driver of the story.”

The Netflix collaboration pairs Sixth Sense star Toni Collette, 45, with TV veteran Steven Mackintosh, 51.

Aussie Toni said the role was “one of the best” of her career and she had no reservations about the sex scenes.

She said: “You have to make it feel real – you can tell when you watch if something’s not energetically right.

“It’s nice for it to be out in the open. I think I got quite used to it.”

The series, which will be on screen next month, also contains a lot of swearing. Nick added: “The BBC were incredibly supportive about whether you can say ‘f***’ at 9.15pm and show a condom.

“As long as everyone could understand why an explicit moment had to be in, it was never a problem.”

Director Luke Snellin said: “Hopefully married couples will be watching and having conversations. It’s healthy.”
