Slayer of Scots eyes more goals

-

BY GARY RALSTON MARCOS TAVARES has vowed to gun down Scotland’s Euro hopefuls all over again.

The Maribor marksman has been on a one-man mission with four goals in six appearances against Scottish clubs in the past eight years.

His strike in 2014 knocked Celtic out of the Champions League in the play-offs and he also netted three against Hibs over two legs in 2010.

Maribor have defeated Rangers and Aberdeen as well in recent seasons.

Tavares, 34, who has been with the Slovenians for a decade, said: “Do I think I can score again? Yes!

“I have good memories of playing in this country but every game is different. It is in my style to try to find the net in every match.

“The goal I scored against Celtic was one of my most important ever and I am looking forward to this match. There have been some good changes at our club and everything is positive ahead of the first leg.”

Maribor boss Darko Milanic said: “It is definitely a 50-50 tie overall but we also have to remember Maribor has a lot of experience in Europe.”
