Passengers faced disruption because of signal problems at Yoker. Trains from Glasgow to Singer, Balloch, Helensburgh, Airdrie, Motherwell, Hamilton, Lanark, Whifflet and Edinburgh were among those affected.
Fans travelling to Celtic’s Champions League clash with AEK Athens also faced problems getting trains to Dalmarnock, near Parkhead.
A ScotRail spokesman said: “We are sorry to customers experiencing disruption as a result of a signalling fault.”
Passengers vented their anger on social media. Karen King tweeted: “Bad enough with road closures without another sterling effort from #scotfail.”
Lothian Labour MSP Neil Findlay tweeted: “On the day Glasgow city centre shuts down because of the cycling – everyone gets turfed off the train at Bathgate because of a signalling fault.”
