Schoolgirl’s note to ‘obnoxious’ Boris

-

A MUSLIM schoolgirl yesterday travelled to Westminster to deliver an open letter to Boris Johnson, slamming him for his “obnoxious” burka remarks.

Anam Ahmedi, 16, called on the MP to apologise immediately for his “sickening” comments.

She travelled from her home in Birmingham to deliver her 1,052word note to Johnson’s office.

Anam, a pupil at Birmingham’s King Edward VI Handsworth School for girls, does not wear a veil but wears a headscarf.

The schoolgirl lives with her dad Waqar, 39, mum Wajeeha, 36, and her two brothers.

Anam wrote: “We live in a country where individuals from diverse cultures and those who have different beliefs are celebrated rather than attacked.

“Why, then, did it dawn upon you that it would be a perfectly good idea to mock the physical appearance of a traditional veil, a veil that dates back to before Islam even came about?”

Anam added: “You of all people should know not to ridicule physical appearances. You have been at the centre of political jokes and most of have been about your appearance.”

She said of her decision to write the letter: “I was sickened. I want to make him apologise. It was very immature of him.” ●A bus driver demanded a Muslim mum, age 20, remove her face veil over safety concerns.

She was with her two-monthold baby on a First Bus trip from Easton to Bristol city.

First Bus apologised to the customer and the incident, on July 1, was reported to police.
