No N wonder her parents Alison Al and Crawford are bursting bu with pride.

Not just at seeing their daughter’s da desire to put her academic ac skills to charitable use us but also to have just seen her h winning a major medal for fo the first time. As fate would have it, all Muir’s M previous successes were w achieved without her parents in the stadium to cheer her on.

When she won two golds at the European Indoors in Belgrade last year, her folks were snowed in at their Milnathort home by the Beast From The East storm.

And when they made the journey to Rio for the 2016 Olympics and London for the Worlds in July, they were disappoint­ed to see her miss out on a podium place.

So last weekend’s stunning 1500m triumph at the European Championsh­ips in Berlin was as magical and emotional a moment for her family as it was for Laura. She said: “It was nice that my mum and dad were out there, having never delivered a medal when they’ve been watching. I knew I had to get them one this time.”

Having starred in front of her family, now Muir is setting her sights on more success at home with yesterday marking 200 days to the European Indoors taking place at Glasgow’s Emirates Arena.

She said: “So much of the European Championsh­ips took place in Glasgow while we were out in Berlin. But the one coming up will be in Glasgow and that will be fantastic.”
