3000 join Paisley runs

MORE than 3000 people took to the streets of Paisley yesterday for the town’s annual 10k Road Race and Fun Run.

Chief executive of Renfrewshi­re Leisure Joyce McKellar said: “It’s a fantastic sight to see so many people enjoying the Fun Run.” it doesn’t matter. I was the first person she’d told. So I felt very honoured.”

Reliving the moment she told Avril 18 years ago, Lucy, who now has three children, added: “We’d been out in London and were having a drunken heart to heart and I told her.

“It was nice to have that release. There were no skeletons in my closet. When I woke the next morning I was dead nervous in the cold light of day she would say ‘see you later’.

“But she was cool, we talked more about it and trundled along until the time was right to fully transition.”

It was only a week later when Avril first saw Lucy in a dress. She said: “She looked like her mother. My mother-inlaw is lovely but it wasn’t the look for her. We needed to find another.”

Since then, the couple have shopped together with Avril helping her buy RESPECTFUL Lucy with players from boy to girl. Football should be fully inclusive.” Parkwood coach Harvey Goodhugh said: “I didn’t even know and it doesn’t matter anyway. You get good and bad referees whoever they are.” And spectator Jenny Mason said: “It doesn’t bother me. As long as she does a good job.” Lucy said: “It was really enjoyable. The players were respectful and it was a good, clean game. “I got a lot of love from the sidelines. “Now people will just know me as Lucy. It’s an exciting new era.” Lucy refs with her pink whistle make-up and clothes. “The first night was so scary. Stepping out the first time with her as her, Lucy was so happy.
