Fancy one of these Kenny?

Stubbs and new Saint Lee want hitman Miller next in the colours

- BY ANTHONY HAGGERTY

ST MIRREN boss Alan Stubbs has confirmed the Buddies are interested in signing Kenny Miller.

The Scouser insists he’d have no qualms introducing Miller into Saints’ dressing room despite his acrimonious departures from both Rangers and Livingston.

Miller left his position as Livi player-boss by mutual consent last weekend after the West Lothian club expressed concerns about the 38-year-old being able to combine his playing and managerial duties.

But Stubbs refused to rule out offering the former Scotland striker a career lifeline in Paisley.

He said: “Kenny was someone I spoke to in the summer to see what his plans were. I think he was contemplating the few options he had and decided to go to Livingston.

“He has things to tie up with Livi in the short term but once he does and thinks about his next move, if it’s something we can pursue there would be interest.

“I haven’t spoken to Kenny but once we get the okay that he has sorted everything out with Livingston then we will try to do that. Would I have any doubts about Kenny coming in to the dressing room? No, not at all.

“It has been well documented what went on with him in the past. You sometimes hear both sides of the story and you don’t know which one is true.

“From Kenny’s point of view he will want it to be amicable at Livingston because he doesn’t want that hanging over his head.

“He is a strong character and I have no problem with people having an opinion. Sometimes that can be a good thing and you need that in the dressing room.

“If you look at Kenny’s situation there have been times he has said things in the dressing room that have been needed but it hasn’t been put in the Press.

“What’s gone on at Rangers has come out but there will also be times when he has said something and has been right but you haven’t heard about it. I think it’s harsh how one full-blown disagreement can see someone labelled this or that.

“I have worked with big characters before so I’d have no problem with Kenny. So if there is a possibility we would be interested but we don’t know yet.”

Miller’s former Rangers team-mate Lee Hodson signed for the Buddies yesterday on a season-long loan – and revealed he would love to see the striker join him in Paisley.

The Northern Ireland international, 26, moved to Ibrox in the summer of 2016 but started just seven games last season and hasn’t featured this term due to Ibrox captain James Tavernier’s irresistible form.

Hodson said: “Kenny would be great to have around the place but that’s down to the gaffer and whatever goes on behind the scenes. It would be great to have Kenny here scoring goals.

“I’m pleased to be at St Mirren and I’m here to give everything. Staying in the Premiership was important to me. As a footballer you want to play week in week out.

“It has been frustrating but I don’t have any regrets. Since Steven Gerrard has come into Rangers he’s been fantastic.

“They have had a great start and are getting back to their best. I will still be supporting the lads and watching how they get on, especially in Europe.

“It’s going to be a great season and I wish them all the luck.”
